The
work of Jean-Marc De Pelsemaeker (1968) is one of the
forms of what you could call “free figuration”.
The artist is fascinated by the energy that emerges
from life, by its good or bad use. His creations are
the result of a meticulous observation of the History
of Art and of the behaviour of alive beings(animal,
human, vegetable). They lead the spectator to ask him
questions about wrong ways of humanity (violence, religious
extremism, hunting, weapons) but also about its more
beautiful achievements. He transposes this vision of
the world by the use of an black lines’ alphabet
inspired of European and Eastern calligraphy as well
as flat tints of colors that become sometimes very sharp.
He uses acrylic in his paintings, and it is sometimes
sensitive to the ultraviolet rays (fluorescent, phospho-rescent).
He
also applies gold sheets and covers surfaces with an
obsessional automatic writing. This true practice of
Benedictine monk consists in as well intensifying the
report/ratio of fragmentation of the light with respect
to pictorial surface as with exorcise this “fear
of the vacuum” which in addition characterizes
the whole work of the artist.
All
these means allow him to capture energy on the canvas.
After several collaborations (Brother Inkjet, CIBA Vision,…),
his stylized drawings, and in particular the intensification
saturated with the black lines which give on painted
surface a convulsive dimension, have been the object
for four seasons of the collection of accessories “World
of Wonder”
just as they were adopted for its collections by the
fashion designer Jean-Paul
Knott.
Jean-Marc collaborates also with the artist and serigrapher
Pascal Durant. They work together on various installations
and “customi-sations”: pieces of furniture,
tissues, wood, etc. that they have presented in many
exhibitions.

Het werk van Jean-Marc
De Pelsemaeker is een voorbeeld van wat we "vrije
figuratie" of "nieuwe figuratie" kunnen
noemen. Zijn créaties zijn gebaseerd op een scherpe
kennis van de kunstgeschiedenis en zijn een reinterpretatie
van grote kunstenaars zoals Roger Van der Weyden, Piero
de la Francesca en Albrecht Dürer.
Als kunstenaar zegt hij gefascineerd
te zijn door de energie die het leven uitstraalt en
de manier waarop die dynamische kracht ten goede of
ten kwade wordt aangewend. Zijn kijk op zijn tijdsgenoten
doorheen de dingen des levens of politieke gebeurtenissen
(geweld, oorlogen…) voeden het universum van zijn
composities. Zijn eigen herkenbare stijl transponeert
de wereldse realiteit naar zijn eigen universum.
Hij Transponeert deze realiteit naar
zijn eigen universum door het gebruik van een alphabet
met enerzijds zwarte randen, die zijn geïnspireerd
door de Europese en Arabische kalligraphie en anderzijds
zeer felle kleurvakken. Hij schildert uiterst precies
met acrylverf, die soms gevoelig is voor ultra-violet
licht (fluorescent en fosforescent) zodat de energie
als het ware wordt gevangen gehouden op het doek.
Jean-Marc De Pelsemaeker animeert sinds
meer dan tien jaar creatieve workshops voor kinderen
rond het thema kunstgeschiedenis. Hij houdt zich ook
bezig met het organiseren van culturele evenementen
en tentoonstellingen (Centre
Albert Marinus) zoals "Les nains de Jardin"
"Edgar tytgat, imagier populaire ", "
chaussure!", "privé 03", "le
diable en personne".
